They'll never be my very favorite amp ever, but for what they are and what they do, I adore these Kustom circuits for their distinctive personality. Eager to see how it hangs with a pummeling drummer.īoth of 'em, in working condition, shipped to my door for $200. Not gonna push this one 'til it gets a checkup, but for home use at the moment, it's exemplary. This one's seen plenty of wear and tear (and dust and grime), but other than slight bulging on the filter cap indicators (but no leaking or corrosion) and needing a new pilot bulb, it's been a clean, deep surf machine so far. The Kasino Club is half the power at a loud 50W, but has reverb and four channels, same basic preamp and power amp structure. It shipped from Wichita, KS, too, which means there's a good chance it was never more than an hour from the old Kustom factory in Chanute. Nothing looks physically leaky, huge filter caps have no bulge on the safety spot, and it rattles the walls. It's got a mid-point shifter ("Selectone") and a 6-position adjustable boost I don't find much use for yet, but turned all the way up, that ragged fuzziness rips out of those big, fat, germanium output transistors just like the naugahyde ones. But it has that same roaring fuzzed-out sound at "10". The U200 doesn't have a direct corollary in the Kustom line. I acquired and cleaned up a Kustom 200 last year and fell in love with its unique charm. The first wave that these are part of was 1970/71 into 1972, when Kasino matched Kustom's new slant-front design. The U200 bass amp was "untested/non-functioning", and the Club PA head was tested and working.īoth were a sub-brand of Kustom, of the famous tuck and roll sparkled vinyl. My first DOUBLE new amp day, and probably the last one for a good long while, so I'm a little extra excited.
